Voice procedure communications are intended to maximize clarity of spoken communication and reduce error in the verbal message by use of an accepted normenclature. It consists of signalling protocol such as the use of abbreviated codes like the CB radio ten-code, Q codes in amateur radio and aviation, police codes, etc. and jargon.

10-4 — Message received; I understand; ok; all right

Ass – Armored vehicles such as Strykers and Tanks.

Band-Aid – A Vietnam-era term for a medic.

Bird - Helicopter

Black (on ammo, fuel, etc.): Almost out. "Black ammo!"

Repeat: Repeat mortar fire "Repeat last position"

Fitty: The .50 caliber machine gun. "Get on that fitty!"

Green Zone: refers to the lush, densely vegetated areas following rivers.

Brown Zone, which refers to the more barren mountains and desert. "Move thru the green zone to keep undetected."

IDF: Indirect Fire, or simply Indirect. Mortars, rockets and artillery. "IDF Incoming"

Opfor: Opposing Forces/Enemy "Opfor sighted right flank, near the fitty"
